Frequently asked questions
Short answers, with links to the wiki pages that go deeper.
What is The Rookie?
The Rookie is a pixel-art auto-battler for mobile. You recruit a fighter, choose its upgrades and watch the duels play out automatically. See what is The Rookie.
When does it come out, and on which platforms?
The game is designed for Android and iOS and is still in development. There is no release date or store link yet, so the home page says "coming soon".
Which languages does it support?
English and Spanish, in the game and on this site. On first launch the game follows your phone's language (Spanish, Catalan or Basque select Spanish, anything else English), and you can change it later in Settings.
Do I control the fighters in battle?
No. The decisions are before and between fights: which fighter you recruit, which rival you face and which upgrade you take at each level. See how to play.
How many fights can I play per day?
Each fighter can fight 10 times a day and then rests until local midnight. Having several fighters lets you play more. See progression.
Can I play offline?
Mostly no. Fights, level-ups, purchases and recruiting are decided by the server, so they need a connection. Offline, the game shows the last known state.
How do I move my account to a new phone?
Create a one-time recovery code in the Account section of Settings and enter it on the new phone. The game never asks for an email address or a password. See privacy.
What is the best fighter type?
All six types are balanced, so pick the one you like. Early on, each wins about half of its duels against rivals of its level. Read the fighters overview.
How many weapons, skills and pets are there?
There are 40 weapons, 51 skills in six schools, and 12 pets.
How many of them can my fighter have?
At most 4 weapons, 8 skills and 3 pets (2 small and 1 large). Once a category is full, a level-up offer of that kind becomes +3 to a stat.
What happens when a fighter is disarmed?
The weapon falls to the floor for the rest of the fight and the fighter punches until it draws another sheathed weapon. See attacks and defence.
Do cosmetics change how strong my fighter is?
No. Everything in cosmetics is purely visual.
Is there a protected mode for younger players?
Yes. Players who are under 16, or who have not answered the age question, play in protected mode: same fights and rules, but no ads, no usage statistics and no social features. Read protected mode.
Where can I read the privacy policy?
Right here: the privacy policy is published in English and Spanish.
